B i o g r a p h y

Janet Muller, Director

Janet graduated from Peabody Prepatory, the New England Conservatory, and Brooklyn College CUNY with Certificate, Bachelors and Masters degrees in flute performance.  Her major flute studies were with James Pappoutsakis, Paula Robison, Karl Kraber and Tom Nyfenger.  She has served on the board of the Greater Baltimore Youth Orchestra and currently teaches at CCBC Essex, Music and Arts Center, and the Lutherville Music School.

Flutopia Baltimore

Flutopia Baltimore was started in 2002 by its director and conductor, Janet Muller.   The group is composed of fine flutists from central Maryland who meet Monday evenings at Trinity Episcopal Church in Towson.  Members include a range of enthusiasts from recent graduates to retired music teachers who perform on a variety of flutes including the C flute, piccolo, alto flute and bass.  

Mission Statement

Flutopia Baltimore is in the process of becoming a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization with a mission to enrich, inspire and serve the community as a performing flute choir by:
  • Enhancing the arts through community music performances
  • Providing the opportunity of artistic expression for flutists of all ages
  • Maintaining a traditional repertoire of classical music
  • Representing new music by contemporary composers and arrangers
